Showing posts with the label radio

Fun Fact: Did you know this?

What's something we can expect to see when we go see a movie at the theater?  Beside popcorn, children, and "coming soon" movie banners, we have to sit through a couple of previews for movies slated to be released in the coming months, otherwise known as trailers . I've always wondered why they're called "trailers" if they precede the show for which we've paid.  As it turns out, the term “trailer” comes from their original placement within the movie screening -- “trailing” at the end of the film. When marketers realized a large portion of the audience left immediately after the feature ended, they moved them to run before the movie began.  A smart move, to say the least. I've observed that at the conclusion of nearly every movie I watch at the theater -- particularly the longer ones -- there are always a few people running for the exits.  Movies absorb one's attention and can very easily wear you out, especially if you s...

ANNOYING: Has this happened to you?

While driving to work, home, or elsewhere, you turn on the radio, only to find a very played-out song airing on one of your favorite stations. In the mood for something newer, you tune into a different station and, to your dismay, the same song is playing on that station as well. At this point you're thinking, "Third time must be the charm." You opt for another radio station and gasp at hearing that very song yet again. This has actually happened to me multiple times over the last couple of years, and boy, is it annoying. I think it's indicative of the fact that radio stations are becoming more homogeneous by the day. Their playlists seem anything but unique. Everyone is trying to play the same Billboard chart-toppers in rotation. I think these companies have to do a much better job of varying their music. Why only play the biggest hits from the past 3 or 6 months? It would serve them well to juxtapose today's hits with those from 5, 10, even 20 years ...

Are you tired of seeing this man in the news?

Can you take a wild guess as to whom I'm talking about? Yep, it's Donald Trump. Whether I'm watching TV, listening to the radio, using Facebook, or reading the newspaper, Trump continues to saturate all media. We're either forced to look at his bizarre hair or hear him talk someone down in his usual bombastic manner. The man is entertaining, I'll give him that much. If he were to host a talk show -- mind you, I watched every season of "Celebrity Apprentice" - I'd be the first one to watch it. But that's just it. He's part businessman, part entertainer. I don't feel he's fit to be President of the United States. I've never seen the media zero in on a celebrity or politician to this extent. He puts Kim Kardashian to shame! It's clear that Trump helps the network garner higher ratings, which is why -- despite all the vitriol he spews out -- they continue to cover him. This is precisely why I look forward to the primar...
