You won't believe who Kourtney Kardashian is dating...

Kourtney Kardashian is reportedly dating none other than Canadian pop heartthrob Justin Bieber. At 36 years of age, Kourtney is the oldest of the so-called Kardashian clan. Bieber is 21, making him 15 years her junior. Kourtney only recently broke up with Scott Disick, with whom she has two children. If it's true these two are together, it'd be interesting to see what has unleashed the "cougar" in her. I presume that she's on the rebound and not looking for anything too serious right now. When you're in her situation, you are willing to settle for anyone who will help take your mind off your personal issues. I can see how she found potential in Bieber -- young, fun, and always with a smile on his face. For his part, he is probably not looking for anything substantive either. Does this have the makings of a fairytale romance? I doubt it. It's probably just another case of the media blowing a Kardashians story out of proportion. In sum, don't be ...

Celebrities, politicians: Are their screw-ups staged?

Gradually, I've become only more convinced that gaffes made by politicians and celebrities -- from Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande to Donald Trump -- are planned for one sole purpose: to garner as much publicity as they can possibly get. The conventional wisdom in Hollywood and the political arena seems to be that any attention is better than no attention. We are assailed by so much information on a daily basis -- advertisements, videos, social media content -- that these people figure the only way to grab our attention is to stir up a little drama and controversy. It's well-documented that the stories that garner the highest ratings are those that tend toward the negative. There's something about murders, sex scandals, and celebrities throwing shade at each other that keeps many people coming back for more. Thus, it comes as no surprise that Donald Trump's surging in the polls following controversial remarks he made about Mexicans, or that the doughnut shop where...

Does success depend on hard work or luck?

Many people say that hard work accounts for one's success while others contend that luck is the single most important contributing factor. It reminds me of a famous question posed by Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), the 3rd President of the United States and author of the Declaration of Independence: "Why is it that the harder I try, the more luck I seem to have?" In other words, another school of thought is that hard work leads to luck, which in turn creates fortuitous circumstances that make success easier to attain. I am of the opinion that success depends on hard work and luck. From what I understand, before Justin Bieber became a megastar -- when he was just a regular kid no one knew of -- he would post videos of himself singing on YouTube. The videos garnered heaps of praise, but that still didn't translate into dollar signs. All it took was for Usher, who is a world-renowned singer in his own right, to take notice of the videos in order for Bieber'...
