Finding out your significant other has cheated on you can be utterly devastating.
You gave this individual everything -- your love, your trust, your loyalty -- only to discover they didn't value you enough to do the same.
It can be difficult to see a silver lining in such a horrible turn of events. But something good usually comes out of a bad situation, and this one is no different.
Here are three ways you can look on the bright side after you've been dealt such an emotional blow:
1. You're now more familiar with the red flags to watch out for. The writing was on the wall early on. You were either oblivious to the signs, or you sensed something might be amiss, but you gave your partner the benefit of the doubt.
This terrible experience has at least sharpened your ability to sniff out a cheater. Going forward, the chances that someone's infidelity will go undetected are far lower.
Now, this doesn't mean we need to become cynical with every person that comes along, fearing that sooner or later they will stray.
With your newfound wisdom, however, you'll be quicker to notice things that may warrant a talk with your partner.
It's important not to come off as suspicious or accusatory until you know for certain that they've been two-timing you.

2. You no longer have to waste your time and energy on a cheater. Better to find out sooner than later, right? It's then up to you to decide whether there's any chance the relationship can be salvaged (usually not) or if it's time to send the person packing for good.
The good thing is that now you're in the driver's seat. You can elect to remain single, hook up with someone else, or take whatever course of your choosing.
Trust is difficult to build and easy to destroy. And what better way to decimate it than by being unfaithful to someone who likely thought the world of you?
At the end of the day, be thankful that you discovered your partner's deceit, as now you can find someone loyal and deserving of you.

3. You're stronger for it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. As catastrophic as such an episode can be to one's psyche, surviving through the ordeal is a sure testament to a person's resilience.
You're now better equipped to grapple with the emotional ramifications of a cheating partner in the future.
No one wishes to be cheated on. But, as with every other challenge we face in life, it's not about what happens to you -- but how you bounce back.
And rest assured that if you've been cheated on, happier days lie ahead. You will eventually find someone wonderful who reciprocates the love, affection, and energy you invest in them.
Rather than framing this in your mind as the end of something, think of it as a new chapter chock full of possibilities.
