Unfortunately, the word "apologize" isn't in everyone's vocabulary. In fact, many people would stop talking to someone altogether before deigning to apologize to them. Why is it so hard for people to apologize? For one, they have huge egos. They can't bring themselves to show any contrition if their lives depended on it -- no matter how serious their actions. Secondly, they might be in denial, refusing to acknowledge they did anything wrong in the first place. Or, they may try to cast blame on external forces -- anything other than themselves -- including the weather, the alarm clock, or their neighbor. Showing remorse enables one to demonstrate a truly humane side of themselves. People may be reluctant to say sorry lest their apology not be accepted. According to the latest job report, the economy added 161,000 in October, effectively dropping the unemployment rate to 4.9%. Taken together with the fact that jobs added during the previous month were revised up considerably by the Labor Department, this suggests that the economy is keeping a steady pace. Though the drop to 4.9% is only a slight one on a month-to-month basis, we've come a long way since 2009, when the unemployment hit a whopping 10.2%. What's more, October's gains signaled the 73rd consecutive month of job gains for the U.S. economy. The September job gains were revised upward to 191,000 jobs from the initial tally of 156,000. Matthew Luckhurst, an officer in the San Antonio Police Department, has been fired for giving a homeless person a fecal sandwich. Yuck! The five-year veteran of the force allegedly bragged to a fellow officer that he had picked up some feces, placed it in a slice of bread and put it in a Styrofoam container next to the homeless man. Police have searched for the homeless individual, but their efforts have been unsuccessful thus far. Internal affairs was informed of the incident in July after another officer reported Luckhurst's actions to his supervisor. It was later recommended that Luckhurst be placed on indefinite suspension. This was nothing short of a vile and disgusting act on Luckhurst's part. I have never heard of anyone -- let alone a cop responsible for upholding the law and respecting each and every citizen of the community -- do something so disgraceful. I equate a lack of self-confidence with not trusting one's abilities. One of the best quotes I've ever heard in a movie was featured in the 2005 film "Coach Carter," starring Samuel L.
