It's a real shame that people take issue with others loving themselves and being comfortable in their own skin, but that's the sad reality.
Why would they have a problem with it, you ask?
Well, if the person is markedly different than them in some way -- say, they don't drink or they embrace a minimalist lifestyle -- it could trigger unsettling insecurities.
Some individuals don't like the thought of others asserting their individuality because it makes them feel unsure of their own habits, values. and predilections.
That in turn may prompt them to try to change the more unique individual into someone that more closely resembles themselves. They'll goad them to have a drink, or to go out and fork over gobs of money on clothes.
How should you handle these people?
It's quite simple.
If they can't handle you at your most authentic, then it's their problem.
Under no circumstances should you give in to their desire to change you to fit their image of you should be like.
Essentially, they want you to blend in with the crowd more. Seeing you standing apart makes them feel uneasy.
Even though being disliked for who you are can feel uncomfortable, it sure beats being loved for a phony version of yourself.
Again, if people can't accept you for who you are, then there's no need to waste any more of your time on them, as there are plenty of others who will in fact appreciate your most genuine self.
Embrace your uniqueness fiercely. There's only one of you in this world, so why become more like someone else? Why become a clone?
Sure, there's no harm in being open to trying new things others may propose, but when it becomes clear they're pushing an agenda -- they're trying to get you to turn your back on your core principles -- that's when you know it isn't on the up and up.
Stand up for what you believe in. Pursue your passions with no restraint. Seek no one's validation but your own, for it's your life to live!
In a world of copycats who would rather toe the line than be themselves, let your uniqueness shine through.
As long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else -- and as long as you're happy -- nobody has any right to push you into being someone you're not.
Don't shy away from what makes you different. Use it to empower you!
